Temporary Users [1.5.x]

General purpose of temporary user rank

In contradiction to regular ones, temporary user rank is dedicated for all those, who because of certain company laws and regulations, cannot be treated as regular ones. The main difference is that they are not bound to a company permanently, meaning they stay is usually time period limited. Typical ones of such are: trainees, interns, contractors etc.

Temporary user creation procedure:

If you need such user, then the easiest way to do so is to follow the standard way of new user creation in Jira (cog icon→User management→ Users→Create User). The below graph illustrates what options are to be selected if you decide to do so:

Making a standard Jira user a temporary one:

What happens after a life-time of a temporary user passes?

Such user with all its groups assigned and settings saved won't be deleted, but simply set as inactive, meaning that he or she won't be able to log in to Jira and perform any operations.

Deactivation effect, when user was logged off when it occurred and tries to log in again. Such message ("Sorry, your username and password are incorrect - please try again.") is to be displayed when one tries to log in despite using proper credentials:

If a user account gets deactivated when he/she is still logged in, nothing can be seen except main, blanked dashboard view screen:

Deactivated users are visible as those with names strikethrough (cog icon→User management→Users)

If more time is needed such user can be granted with it and another temporary period can be provided as well. To do this check here (it's present under "Mass Update" →Time to inactivate).
