Permission Cloner [1.5.x]
Main purpose and aim is to provide a possibility for an exact copy of a particular user with all of its assigned accesses and permissions assigned.
Please note that it's possible only to clone project roles and groups for active users. If you are unable to find user in any of the user boxes then please double check if he/she is not set as inactive.
If you cannot find a user, please go to the right upper corner of a screen and access cog icon, then → Users and click Edit (in adjacency to a particular user). There you should see a tick possibility for "Active".
Cloning operation is straightforward and should not pose any problem. The below images present hypothetical scenario:
After clicking "Proceed" you are to be presented with a final confirmation box. Here you can select, which roles you wish to clone (as you can see it's done on the first tab - "Roles"). If you want to make an exact copy, just press "Select all" and hit "Clone roles":
The same goes for "Groups" tab. The only difference is that here you use "Clone groups" button:
By doing so, in a few steps, without any stress and confusion you can make a clone, with different name and an exact copy accesses and permissions.
An effect of a successful cloning operation is always presented:
The above image presents the situation where user with login "brianreyes" wasn't granted with a membership with jira-administrators group, but belongs to the role of: Administrators and Developers. As it's presented - it's posssible to perform not full (partial) cloning - you can select for example only to clone only Project Roles without Groups. Non-cloned elements are marked with ✖ sign next to it.
Please be advised:
After cloning operation where all of possible selections were marked to be taken into account, user will be given with the same roles and groups. In case of user roles tied with groups, such situation is indicated with check marks present without any ✖ signs among it.
It's also possible to clone only Project Roles (for users not assigned to any groups) - see the below image:
In such case you won't see any information about cloned or not cloned groups.
Be advised!
During cloning operation, after selecting project from "User's accessible projects" and going to "Groups" tab you may not spot anything here, despite user is a member of multiple Jira groups like "jira-administrators", "jira-users" etc. This happens because groups in Admin Tools for Jira are displayed during cloning only, if they had already been assigned to a particular project role in Jira itself. So prior to taking any cloning operation make sure that all is set as desired in Jira.
