Calendar&Timeline view of the execution history and upcoming executions
Jira hosting: Server, Data Center
Concept of Calendar&Timeline view
The Scheduler now has a feature that allows you to view the execution history or upcoming executions for all Scheduled Issues with action that has been taken in the Calendar or Timeline view. To open one of these modes, click the button above the Scheduled Issues Table, next to the Execution History/Upcoming Executions buttons at the Project Level (or in the Manage Scheduled Issues on Global Level). All users have access to those modes.
You will be able to see all created executions in the past or future organised chronologically and graphically by month/date/time of execution.
There are two types of views:
(1) Calendar view with cells as the day of the month
(2) Timeline view a long bar labelled with scale representing time.
The data in these views will match the data displayed in the Execution History/Upcoming Executions Table.
Check the following sections to see how they work:
Using Calendar/Timeline
To use this feature you need to have at least one Scheduled Issue that has been executed or will be executed in the future. You can view the selected Scheduled Issue(s) or all Scheduled Issues listed in the Scheduled Issues Table. After clicking the Calendar/Timeline button calendar modal window appears.
The following options are available in both views:
Scheduled Issues details (1)
If you are interested in the details of a particular SI, select the item and the details will be displayed on the right side of the calendar/timeline with basic information such as: the execution time, the name of the Scheduled Job, the execution type, the execution result, the project name and the created Jira issue (in case of already executed SIs). This section can be expanded and collapsed at will by clicking on the header.Legend of executions (2)
Very helpful is that each SI has its own color, which also has a different tone depending on whether it is executed or not.
The selected Scheduled Issue is highlighted in yellow. If you are unsure of the meaning, simply hover over the icon for more information.Today button (3)
This takes the user to the current date. It is especially useful when looking at other executions in other months.Close button (4)
Calendar (5) and Timeline (6) buttons
Button of the current mode is highlighted in blue.
Calendar view
It is by default opened on the current month, but you can easily switch to the previous month or to a distant period in the past or future. This can be done by using the single or double (at least one year) left/right arrows (7).
All past and future executions are visible in cells on the day of the month. A row in a cell has the name as the Scheduled Issue and the execution time. Only a few items are visible and the rest of them are grouped under the +“number” more (8) link. When you click on it, a view with all Scheduled Issues for a day appears.
Timeline view
If you would like to see your history and upcoming execution in timeline mode next to Calendar (5) button you have Timeline (6) button which changes the view. After clicking it, the current month is displayed.
The Timeline mode looks like a table, where the Scheduled Job Issues are listed in the first column (9) and the years, months, days, time units are matched to the first two rows (10) in an appropriate way.
To view a more specific (or general) date/time, you can click on the month/day/time or zoom in/out.
Use the arrows (11) to move between hours/days/months or hold down the mouse button and move the cursor right/left. Another option is to use the magnifying glasses to zoom in (12)/out (13). Once you have zoomed in sufficiently, you can change the length of the items displayed using the Item length menu (14). The item length values are in minutes and can improve readability at higher zoom levels.
If a time slot is selected in which there is no Scheduled Issue, then NONE is displayed in the Scheduled Job column.
Performance warning
This is a message about the applied limit of items that appears if there are more than 1000 created issues and 1000 upcoming executions per month counting from the beginning of the month.
The limit can be switch off by clicking on the link Disable limit (15), but you should be aware off that it can interfere with the performing of issues on the view in both modes.
A warning is displayed under the modal title Execution history an Upcoming executions in both modes.
