Types of finding the signature location
Manual and automatic signature
DocuSign offers two options for locating signature placements: manual selection or automatic detection.
Manual selection: Users manually choose the location for the signature placement within the document.
Automatic detection: In this option, the application automatically locates the signature placement based on the settings previously defined by the user or administrator.
Global Envelope Configuration: Global settings are predefined by the administrator in the DocuSign Settings tab. Jira initial setup - DocuSign for Jira - Confluence (atlassian.net). To utilize these settings, users must check the corresponding checkbox (1) during the document signing process.
Local Envelope Configuration : Alternatively, users can opt for their own local settings by unchecking the checkbox and filling in all the required fields such as Anchor String, Position from anchor on X-axis, and Position from anchor on Y-axis.
It is important to note that the Anchor string should be a unique value within the document. Otherwise, the application may prompt the user to sign in multiple locations where the Anchor String value appears.
Differences Between Manual and Automatic Signing
It’s obvious that primary difference lies in the method of placing the signature. Another difference is, that manual signing offers more than just signature placement. When opting for manual signing, users can utilize the drag-and-drop feature in DocuSign to place various elements such as dates, stamps, names, company names, and more onto the document.
This flexibility allows users to customize and add additional information to the document beyond just the signature.
Automatic signing - Anchor string not found
Additionally, in cases where the automatic signature placement feature fails to function (for example, due to the inability to locate the specified Anchor String), the user will be automatically prompted to switch to manual signing. This ensures that the signing process can proceed smoothly even in situations where the automatic detection method encounters difficulties.
Automatic signing - Lack of global envelope settings
The administrator is responsible for setting up global envelope settings. However, this step is not required. If a user intends to sign a document and use the automatic option with global settings that have not been set up, they will receive the following prompt:
In this case user must provide their own local envelope settings.
